Funding sources

What outside funders committed, and what has arrived so far.

Some communities are funded from outside: a large treasury that releases an allocation to several communities every month, Project Catalyst paying approved proposals, a sponsor. Funding sources records what each of them committed and compares it with what actually arrived in your treasuries, so you can see whether a funder is on plan, behind or ahead, and what is still to come.

It is an overview, not a wallet: the money still arrives in your own treasuries as ordinary inflows, and nothing new is read from the chain. An admin ties each inflow to its source.

The Funding page

Funding (community sidebar) lists every funding source with its totals per token:

  • Planned — everything the source committed. A recurring commitment without an end date reads Open-ended.
  • Due so far — what should have arrived by now: one-off amounts whose expected month has come (or that have none), and every period of a recurring commitment or schedule up to the current one.
  • Received — the inflows tied to the source.
  • Against the plan — received minus due: On plan, an amount over (it arrived early or was more), or an amount under (it is late or was less).
  • Still to receive — planned minus received (Nothing once received reaches planned).

Below the totals each commitment shows the same figures. Periods opens a recurring commitment or schedule month by month (or quarter by quarter): what was planned, what arrived in that period, and the running total against the plan. A release that comes a month late shows as under in the month it was due and back on plan when it arrives. Inflows tied to the source but to no commitment are listed as Received without a commitment, and Show received inflows lists every inflow behind the received amounts.

Everyone in the community can see the page; only admins change it.

Funding sources and commitments

Admins click Add funding source and give it a name (for example "Project Catalyst" or the treasury that funds you), an optional description and a link. Edit changes them; Delete removes the source and its commitments after you type its name. The inflows tied to it stay in your treasuries and are only untied.

Add commitment records what a source promised. A commitment can plan several tokens, and is one of three kinds:

  • One-off amount — a single total, for example an approved Catalyst proposal of 50,000 ADA. Expected in is optional: until that month nothing is due.
  • Recurring amount — the same amount every month or quarter, from a first period to an optional last period.
  • Schedule — a different amount each period, for example a release plan that shrinks every month. After adding it, the schedule editor opens to load its periods.

Amounts are added one token at a time with Add token…: choose from ADA, your payout tokens and the tokens your treasuries hold, or Other token… and enter its unit (policy id followed by the asset name, in hex), which is checked against the chain. Enter amounts in whole units with a dot for decimals (20000, 211800.72389063). Amounts are stored exactly, never rounded: more decimals than a token has are refused. Edit changes a commitment's name, dates, amounts, link and note (its kind and cadence stay); Remove deletes it, and its inflows stay tied to the source.

Loading a schedule from a CSV

Import CSV on a funding source starts a new schedule commitment from a funder's release plan: name it, choose monthly or quarterly, and click Add and import periods. Schedule on an existing schedule opens the same editor. Choose the CSV file, or paste it:

month,sc_allocation,ambassador_allocation
2021-07-01,225000,75000
2021-08-01,221625,73875
2021-09-01,218300.625,72766.875
  1. Date column — the column holding each release's date, written 2021-07, 2021-07-01 or 01.07.2021 (a day inside the month is fine). A column named month, date, period, release, release date, release month, month start or start, or whose every cell is a date, is chosen for you. If the file has no dates, choose No date column and the month of the first row: the rows are then consecutive months (or quarters) in file order.
  2. Amount columns — for each other column, the token it is paid in, or Skip this column. A funder's plan often lists several communities side by side: map yours and skip the others. Columns can be different tokens (for example one GVTT and one ADA column); a column whose name contains exactly one known ticker (signius_ada) is mapped to it for you (when two columns name the same ticker, you choose).
  3. Preview — the first periods with their amounts, how many periods from when to when, and the total per token. Problems are listed by line: a date that cannot be read, a month given twice, an amount with a comma, more decimals than the token has, two columns mapped to the same token, or, for a quarterly schedule, a month that does not start a quarter.

Use these amounts fills the periods: the mapped tokens' earlier amounts are replaced, other tokens stay. You can then change, add or remove single periods, and Download CSV exports the schedule. Save schedule saves every period at once.

Tying inflows to a source

On Incoming & reconciliation, an admin opens Details on an inflow, picks the Funding source and, optionally, the Commitment it pays, and saves. The whole inflow counts as received, every token in it, in the period of the day it arrived. A transfer between the community's own wallets cannot be tied to a source, and an inflow later recognised as such a transfer loses its tag.

On the Dashboard, the Funding flow draws a tagged inflow from its source by name, instead of from Contributions, Revenue or the other income kinds. A refund stays a refund: it never counts as income, tagged or not.

Conversion fees

Below the funding sources, Conversion fees totals gas, bridge fees and other costs from bridge and swap conversions recorded on Cardano inflows (and float inflows). Recent episodes are listed with what was sent and the fee lines. These totals are community ops bookkeeping: they do not change planned vs received funding, and they are not workgroup budget spend. The Dashboard shows the same fee totals for the selected period.
